Clive Elliott - Chief Instructor

Clive Elliott is the Chief Instructor and Founder of Kennet Valley Cross Training and Clive Elliott's Martial Arts Academies (est. since 1989). He has been training in martial arts for 35 years, and teaching for 22 years.

He is the U.K. representative and Director of Defendo UK and has trained and taught a variety of martial arts professionally on an international basis.

Clive has instructorships in a variety of martial arts having trained in a multitude of martial arts worldwide having taught in the UK, Sweden, Canada and America.

Clive has had an interesting martial arts career as a professional martial arts instructor, having established his own club in 1989. Clive is a consistent writer for Martial Arts Illustrated magazine and has appeared on the cover of Martial Arts Illustrated (3 times) and Combat Magazine.

He has appeared as an Instructor for Sky Television's Fight School shot in China on the set of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Clive was also appointed as team Captain for British Television's BBC 2's, Masters of Combat., he featured in the video of "Once upon a time in London" with Steve Benitez as well as several other tv shows in the UK and Canada, which included a live demonstrations on Channel 4's breakfast show. Clive has appeared in numerous UK martial arts documentaries, radio and newspaper spots. He attained his full instructorship in Jeet Kune Do and Filipino martial arts in 2008.

Karen Elliott - Senior Instructor (1st Dan)

Senior Instructor Karen Elliott has been training for 16 years and holds a 1st Dan black belt in kickboxing and a 2nd Dan black belt in Tae Kwon-Do. Karen is also an apprentice instructor in Jeet Kune Do and Filipino martial arts.

She has been involved in Combat Cross training with her husband and Chief Instructor Clive Elliott for the past 10 years. In February 2004, Karen became the 1st female Defendo instructor (level 1) in the world.

Karen has been teaching the Martial Arts to people of all ages since 1997. She has done a great deal of study in the area of Sport Science, and has a good all-round knowledge of Flexibility and Nutrition - she is always willing to help and give advice.

She fought in both semi contact and light continuous tournaments reaching 4th in the UK rankings for her weight division.

Karen fought in the final of 'Masters of Combat' (BBC 2 TV series); she was also the feature star of Martial Arts Illustrated December 2002 and the cover star in June 2004.


Gary Leggett - Instructor (1st Dan)

Gary has been training with Clive Elliott for nine years in a variety of martial arts, he attained his Black belt 1st Dan in kickboxing in June 2009.

Gary also received his phase 1 instructorship in Jeet Kune Do and Filipino martial arts (TTF) as well as a level one instructor in Defendo the Military based system of self defence.

He regularly competes in mixed martial arts and is an outstanding kickboxer. He has a unique way of pushing students to new levels. He teaches both junior and adult classes.


James Clutton - Assistant Jeet Kune Do Instructor

James Clutton has been studying the martial arts for the past 10 years. After training in Wing Chun Kung Fu for 3 years he was introduced to Clive Elliott, and has been one of his students ever since..

In 2003 James became one of the next generation 'British Defendo' students outside of America.

2007 saw James enrol in the Thru The Fire (TTF) Instructor Development Program. This lead to a trip to California in 2008, where he received his Phase 1 Instructorship from Progressive Fighting Systems (PFS) founder Paul Vunak. James then received his associate instructorship in JKD and Filipino martial arts from Sifu John Koeshall in 2010.

During the past 10 years James has been exposed to many areas of combat, ranging from ground fighting to weaponry.
